Dengue fever poses a huge burden to any healthcare system. The presence of skin rash aids in the early diagnosis of dengue fever. Patients with dengue fever normally present skin rash with itching and swollen palms and soles. However in certain cases, the same may not be seen. If you or your loved one is suffering from persistent fever for the past 2 weeks, it is best that you consult a specialist at the earliest and opt for a dengue or malaria test at the earliest.

Duration of Illness in Dengue

Symptoms usually last for 2 to 7 days. Fever subsides within 4-5 days. An acute viral disease dengue fever typically occurs when a mosquito serving as the carrier of the dengue virus, stings the individual. Dengue is accompanied by an outbreak of rashes that can be seen at two different stages of the disease progression – during the onset of the fever and for a second time when the fever subsides. Rashes are the common symptom of dengue fever. The dengue fever rash can occur twice in different stages of the disease. The first rash appears in the initial stage of the disease and the second one when the fever is in the last stage. The patient often has a flushed face before the main rashes appear.

While the first instance serves as a clear indication of the disease the second outbreak may not be an all too common occurrence. These skin rashes are pretty itchy and result in the area around the skin drying up and peeling off after some time.

There are no known ways to cure rashes during dengue and the matter can only be addressed once the fever has totally subsided. However, the itchiness can be taken care with skin soothing lotions. Dengue is a horrific disease that is painful and dangerous. To curb this menace, it is important to understand the various aspects of this virus ranging from its emergence including its causes to its cure.
